Guy Savino
- Bio
Guy Savino started playing guitar at age 13 in
suburban Philadelphia. Early acoustic influences included Crosby Stills Nash &
Young, Bob Dylan, the Eagles, and most of the bands of the era. He started out
strictly as guitar player until one night the singer in a junior high band
couldn't make it, he decided to give it a shot and was lead singer in every band
he was in afterwards. After playing in a band in the Huntingdon Valley, Pa area,
Guy relocated to Massachusetts. There he met good friend Gerry Hailer, whom he
formed a band with. The band played out a little, but soon afterwards, Gerry and
several members of the band left the area. A new band , Fridays Child was formed
that played in the Scituate. MA area at high school dances and Boston frat
parties that included Northeastern University and MIT. At age 17, Guy started
playing solo in addition to the band. The first solo gig was at Jeremy's Saloon
in Hanover, MA. Guy's first song was written at age 17 in San Francisco, CA
called "Lonely For You". After high school graduation, Guy was re-united with
his old friend Gerry Hailer at Southeastern Massachusetts University, the two
formed an acoustic duo "Savino and Hailer", who rocked SMU's rathskellar, Ground
Rounds, Newport Tavern, and several other establishments. Guy majored in guitar
at Berklee College of Music in Boston in the summer of 1976. On the way back
from a trip out west, Guy wrote "Hammer Down To Massachusetts", when heading
back home in the east. When Hailer left SMU, Guy formed a band "Fly By Nite"
played at SMU and Moby Dick's, a New Bedford establishment. Upon college
graduation, Guy headed south to Florida and again started the solo acoustic gig
up again at Good Company, a Daytona Beach coffee house, as well as other clubs
in the Daytona area. After a trip to Miami, Guy wrote "Roll On Florida Highway"
on the way back to Daytona. When Guy met his wife, Lisa, a couple more songs
were written "Hopin The Next One's you" and "Friend and a Lover". Guy and Lisa
had two children, Austin and Savannah. After vacationing in Ocracoke, North
Carolina in 2002, Guy discovered Soundside Studios. Going into the studio to
record the new song "Ocracoke", Guy and engineer Gary Mitchell gelled and
recorded fifteen songs, all written and hand picked by Guy. These songs became
Guy's first CD entitled "Guy Savino". Two years later in 2004, Guy recorded 6
more new songs and one remake of "Ocracoke" at Soundsound Studios. Guy is
currently working on his second CD entitled "Everything Will Be All Right".
You can see Guy play in clubs in the greater Daytona Beach area, especially
along the beach.
